Cavallo: cure di base e igiene

Cura della stalla
Il cavallo ha bisogno di una stalla per dormire e proteggersi dalle intemperie. Un tipico capanno a tre lati sarà sufficiente, purché sia abbastanza grande da permettere al cavallo di entrarci senza problemi. Inoltre, ci dovrebbe essere sempre una zona più morbida (paglia per esempio) dove il cavallo possa riposare. Per la cura della stalla i compiti giornalieri saranno:
- Rimuovere il letame due volte al giorno.
- Pulire la mangiatoia e l’abbeveratoio.
- Cambia parte della “cuccia” un paio di volte alla settimana.
Pulizia del cavallo
In linea di massima, se il cavallo non ha fatto molto esercizio fisico, si fa il bagno una volta alla settimana per pulirlo. Questa operazione andrà fatta nei giorni di sole per evitare che il cavallo si ammali. Avremo bisogno dei seguenti elementi:
- Striglia – spazzola circolarmente. Non usare mai su ossa, testa, le zampe
- Brusca dura – spazzola con piccoli movimenti rapidi. Non usare mai su ossa, testa, le zampe
- Brusca a setole morbide – fai lunghi movimenti per lo sporco superficiale.
- Pettine e spazzola – per la criniera.
- Spugna – pulisci gli occhi e le narici con una spugna umida.
Cura degli zoccoli
Gli zoccoli sono una delle parti più sensibili e importanti di un cavallo e devono essere mantenuti completamente sani. Richiedono una pulizia giornaliera. Devi stare molto attento quando lo fai, nel caso gli facessi male accidentalmente, potrebbe reagire con un calcio e farti molto male. Fallo lentamente, presta attenzione a tutto e non farti distrarre da nulla mentre lo fai.
Gli strumenti di base per mantenere e curare gli zoccoli del cavallo sono i seguenti:
- Nettapiedi – per rimuovere il fango in eccesso.
- Spazzola – già presente nel nettapiedi in certi casi
- Unguento – In questo modo eviterai sia la secchezza durante i periodi più caldi che l’eccesso di umidità durante i mesi più freddi.
Ricordati di consultare un professionista su come pulire e ingrassare gli zoccoli del tuo cavallo, così come sulla manutenzione e la sostituzione dei ferri.
