Arricchimento ambientale: migliorare la vita del vostro animale
Probabilmente avrai già sentito parlare di “arricchimento ambientale” come un modo per migliorare la quotidianità degli animali. Devi sapere che l’arricchimento può e deve essere usato con tutti gli animali domestici.

Cos’è l’arricchimento ambientale?
L’arricchimento ambientale consiste nel migliorare il benessere dei nostri amici animali, fornendo loro stimoli e favorendo i comportamenti che sarebbero tipici in natura. Aiuta anche a prevenire lo stress, lo sviluppo di problemi comportamentali e migliori in generale il benessere degli animali.
L’arricchimento è particolarmente necessario soprattutto nei rifugi per animali abbandonati, dove si registra un evidente miglioramento del benessere. Ma si tratta anche un’ottima routine per tutti gli animali che vivono in casa.
Le tipologie di arricchimento ambientale sono:
- Naturale – elementi che consentono all’animale di riproporre comportamenti naturali.
- Nutrizionale – sistemi che facciano ingegnare per procurarsi il cibo, anziché la semplice ciotola servita.
- Sociale – incoraggiamento a socializzare con i suoi simili e altre persone.
- Sensoriale – stimoli tramite odori e suoni.
Ecco alcune idee classiche per l’arricchimento ambientale del nostro animale:
- Giochi stimolanti. Gli animali amano giocare sia con giocattoli da mordere che con giocattoli “intelligenti”.
- Addestramento. È ottimo per l’arricchimento cognitivo e fisico. Inoltre, l’addestramento aiuta l’animale a pensare da solo. Ricorda di usare sempre il rinforzo positivo, le punizioni causano solo sfiducia e stress.
- Esercizi olfattivi. Il “searching” è un gioco di ricerca olfattiva (rivolto in genere per i cani) che aiuta a stimolare l’olfatto. Aiuta anche a rilassarsi, offre stimoli ambientali ed è un buon esercizio di attivazione mentale.
- Contatto fisico. Il contatto fisico migliora il legame con il nostro animale. Dovremo evitare di toccare alcune le parti in cui mostrano rifiuto (come in genere le zampe). Accarezzeremo, invece, la testa, il dorso e il ventre.
- Passeggiate e sport. Durante le passeggiate l’animale può socializzare con altri simili o persone, annusare l’ambiente e fare esercizio. Quindi è l’immancabile momento più importante della sua giornata.
