Gravidanza del coniglio: come gestirla
Se avete una coppia di conigli può essere che dopo poco tempo vi sorprendano con una gravidanza imprevista. Si tratta di una tappa molto importante, i conigli raggiungono la maturità sessuale tra i 4 de i 6 mesi di vita. A differenza di altri mammiferi, il coniglio non ha periodi specifici di ‘calore’, ma può riprodursi durante tutto l’arco dell’anno.
Evitare una gravidanza non voluta è molto facile, bisogna rivolgersi al veterinario per trovare il momento più consono per sterilizzare l’animale.
La gravidanza del coniglio femmina dura circa un mese. Se questo tempo è trascorso e la coniglietta non ha partorito, bisogna portarla urgentemente dal veterinario. Dopo il 34° giorno infatti è molto probabile che i feti muoiano dentro di lei se non riesce a partorirli.
Fasi della gravidanza del coniglio
Prima fase – I sintomi della gravidanza si notano dal decimo giorno, manifestandosi con un umore irascibile e il rigonfiamento dell’addome.
Seconda fase – Dal quattordicesimo giorno la futura madre è molto delicata, non lasciate che il maschio le si avvicini.
Terza fase – La femmina inizierà a costruire la tana, normalmente utilizzando il suo proprio pelo per creare una nicchia confortevole.
Il parto – Quando la femmina da alla luce è fondamentale mantenere lontano il maschio, per proteggere i cuccioli e per evitare che la fecondi nuovamente 72 ore dopo il parto.
Bisogni del coniglio durante la gravidanza
Il periodo di gestazione delle coniglie è solitamente abbastanza tranquillo, però vi sono alcune cose a cui dovrete prestare attenzione:
Alimentazione – Cambiate la dieta di fieno con una di fieno di alfalfa, e integratelo con carote, pomodoro, prezzemolo e lattuga.
Acqua – durante la gestazione il consumo di acqua da parte della femmina aumenterà.
Tana – Per aiutarla nel rendere più accogliente la tana procuratevi paglia e carta da mettere all’interno.
Protezione – La femmina è molto delicata in questo periodo e allo stesso modo evitate che altri animali possano disturbarla.
Nascita dei coniglietti
Il numero di cuccioli varia a seconda dei casi (di solito sono tra i 4 ed i 12 cuccioli). Appena nati, assicuratevi che tutti i cuccioli respirino e riescano ad alimentarsi con il latte materno. Tuttavia non toccate mai i cuccioli perché il vostro odore indurrà la femmina ad abbandonarli o a divorarli. Se dovete necessariamente toccarli fatelo coi guanti e dopo strofinateli con un poco di pelo materno.
Se notate alcuni piccoli morti, cosa che può avvenire se si tratta di una cucciolata numerosa, portateli via immediatamente e sempre in presenza della madre.
Dall’ottava settimana i piccoli saranno più grandi e inizieranno a essere indipendenti.
